Released on the 7th July 2008 to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Australia II’s Victory in the America's Cup<p>
After weeks of speculation and controversy, Australia II finally crossed the
finish line in the closing race of the series, 25 years ago. Skippered by
John Bertrand and with its famous Lexcen-designed winged keel, the
yacht ended the United States’ 132-year winning streak – the longest in
modern sports history. <p>
Australia II’s victory is a testament to Australian technology, design and
teamwork, which brought competitive sailing to the world’s attention.
This Silver anniversary marks one of Australia’s most widely remembered
sporting victories. Many Australians remember the emotion of the time, the
song “Down Under”, the symbol of the boxing kangaroo and the very
significant winged keel design.<p>
The Australian innovation with the winged keel will be represented by a special display card that is knifed out in the shape of the keel.
