Between February 1942 and November 1943, during the Pacific theatre of World War II, the Australian mainland, domestic airspace, offshore islands and coastal shipping were attacked at least 97 times by aircraft from the Imperial Japanese Navy and Imperial Japanese Air Force.

As we approach the 70th anniversary of these attacks in 2012, The Royal Australian Mint released on the 1st February,  a three coin uncirculated set depicting images of these attacks and the civilian response. Remembering these events will ensure our nation never forgets the horrors of war, our nation’s ability to rally together in times of need and the value of peace.

This is a very popular album which folds out and is compact with a spine of about 1.2 cm.(this does vary slightly between denominations) The coins are inserted into pre cut holes which have a date and mintage figures just below the holes. The albums are only available in brown which makes choosing easier.

The dollar album is now in 2 volumes and covers the period from 1984 to 2007 and 2008 - 2012.  That means it now includes right up to the 2012 Wheat Sheaf dollar. There are spaces for another 16 coins in the album after this date

 The 2007-dated coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality. The coin’s reverse design portrays an abstract interpretation of Australia’s stark and beautiful landscape. The design surrounds a transparent half-circle locket containing approximately 1-carat of sapphires. Linked through time with many special properties, including wisdom, loyalty and healing, sapphires are also the birthstone of people born in September.

 Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.

Australia’s first nationally coordinated Census was taken on 2 April 1911. It contained 21 questions and revealed a population of 4 455 005 people. Many of these questions are still used today.

The Census of 1947 played an important role directing post–WWII Australia in the areas of migration and infrastructure, and from 1971 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were included in the official population enumeration.

The Census is important for determining where schools and hospitals are needed, allocating federal funding to states and territories, and planning community services and facilities. Continuing this fine tradition, the data from the 2011 Census will again be helping to chart the course of our nation’s future.

The double sided Pro-Fil sheets are free of any softeners and are manufactured from the finest quality black strong PVC. They have clear heat sealed pockets to cover your stamps completely for maximum protection.

The sheets themselves measure 215 x 280 mm and are 7 hole punched to fit most 3 or 4 ring binders.

There are 10 different pocket formats - you can choose from the one pocket per page right up to 8 strips (pockets) per page and there is also the PF4/T which is great for phonecards - I find them handy for the smaller stamp booklets. There's also the PF9 which can be used for postcards. Because the strips are welded on three sides it means that when you turn the page they don't fall out. Uncirculated Silver Dollar In 2011 the Royal Australian Mint continues its long running Kangaroo Series with this stunning representation of the allied rock-wallaby.

 The allied rock-wallaby is commonly seen in north-east Queensland, on nearby Palm Island and Magnetic Island.

It skilfully hops around rocky cliffs feeding on grasses, fruits, seeds and flowers. During Autumn, the wallaby sheds its dark brown fur revealing a lighter coat that provides camouflage against the grasses that sprout around its rocky home.

The allied rock-wallaby was originally thought to be more widespread, but since genetic testing was introduced, five more distinct wallaby species were discovered, and are only distinguishable by the size and shape of their chromosomes
